CORONADO CARTEL WINS FIRST TRAINING RACE OF SEASON, POSTING TOP TIME OF DAY

OKLAHOMA CITY – Remington Park training races began with 13 events for Valentine’s Day as horsemen continue preparations with their athletes for the start of the season next month. Coronado Cartel won the first training race and posted the top time of the afternoon in the process.
Owned by Reliance Ranches of Llano, Texas and trained by Eddie Willis, Coronado Cartel handled his 250 yards in :13.454 seconds over a fast track, aided slightly by a tailwind of nine miles per hour, for an American Quarter Horse Association Speed Index of 81. Jockey Jimmy Brooks was up as the colt won his race by three-quarters of a length. All Remington Park training races are contested at 250 yards.
A 2-year-old colt Oklahoma-bred colt by Corona Cartel from the Mr Jess Perry mare First Carolina, Coronado Cartel was bred by the Madill, Okla. partnership of Weetona Stanley and William Smith. The colt sold in the 2012 Ruidoso (New Mexico) Yearling Sale for $290,000.
Remington Park will conduct 12 more training races on Friday, Feb. 15, beginning at 11:30am.
The American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season runs from March 8 and continues thru June 2 and marks the start of the 25th Anniversary Year of Horse Racing at Remington Park. Normal post time on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays is 6pm with Sunday afternoon racing offered at 1:30pm.
