OKLAHOMA CITY – Remington Park has been forced to delay the opening of its racing surface once again, postponing the start of training to begin for the upcoming 2014 American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season. The racetrack is now scheduled to open for the first time on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Remington Park and central Oklahoma have been below the freezing-mark since late Tuesday, Feb. 4. While temperatures are expected to barely climb above freezing today and Sunday, the period of time higher than 32-degrees is not sufficient to properly prepare the racing surface. Another blast of winter precipitation is expected on Monday, Feb. 10.

Once the Monday weather has passed, forecasts call for temperatures to rise for multiple days, allowing training to get underway. The new opening schedule for the track was announced this morning by Remington Park director of racing Michael Shamburg.

The racetrack will also open on what will be the first of two scheduled days of training races during the upcoming week. Remington Park will conduct the 250-yard training races on both Wednesday, Feb. 12 and Thursday, Feb. 13 beginning at 11:30am.

The racetrack was originally scheduled to open on Feb. 5.

The 2014 American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season at Remington Park begins March 7 and continues thru June 1. Normal first post time will be 6pm nightly.

Open daily at 10:30am for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the Grade 2 Oklahoma Futurity, to be run for the 73rd time on March 22, 2014.

Tracked by over 51,000 fans on Facebook and 5,000 Twitter followers, Remington Park is Oklahoma City’s only Racetrack & Casino and is located at the junction of Interstates 35 & 44, in the heart of the Oklahoma City Adventure District.
